Nobody expected a purge when ABC officials announced Thursday night that The View would be going through some big changes. But as part of these changes, executives at the 17-year-old daytime talk show decided to give the ax to co-hosts Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy, the New York Daily News reports. With these stars gone and Barbara Walters officially retired from the program she created in 1997, Whoopi Goldberg is the last woman standing.

The View will be moving in an exciting new direction next season and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively,” Lauri Hogan, a spokeswoman for the program, told the Daily News.

Fortunately, a side of bitterness wasn’t served with this unexpected cut. Shepherd and McCarthy took to Twitter to confirm the news.

The ex-hosts seem to have a good support system, with Shepherd posting a selfie on Instagram with McCarthy and McCarthy’s fiance, Donnie Wahlberg. Selfies prove to be a great coping method anyway, right?

There’s no telling what to expect of the show next season or who the replacement co-hosts will be. The View will be on hiatus next week, and then McCarthy and Shepherd are expected to resume taping the remainder of this season.
