She’s already a style icon, and now she’ll be a bona fide designer. Actress and singer Zendaya is the latest star to be tapped to create a capsule collection with Tommy Hilfiger. As reported by Vogue, Hilfiger commented in a statement:
“I love to collaborate with people who are passionate about making their dreams a reality and who inspire the next generation to do the same. Zendaya has become a global icon, using fashion to make bold statements while always staying true to herself.”
Zendaya, who has been a rising star in style and on screen alike, expressed similar sentiments, saying:
“Fashion is more than just wearing cool clothes. It’s a way to celebrate self-expression and individuality, which is extremely empowering. This is why I am proud to partner with Tommy Hilfiger.”
Zendaya succeeds supermodel Gigi Hadid, who worked with the brand for two years, creating four capsule collections. She joins fellow Hilfiger ambassador, race car driver Lewis Hamilton, whose first collaboration with the label debuted during Fashion Month.
Zendaya is an of-the-moment talent, the latest in a long line that Hilfiger has recruited to represent his all-American brand over the past two decades, including Beyoncé, Usher and Aaliyah. (Full disclosure: This writer was also a Hilfiger campaign model in the early aughts.)
From the looks of it, longtime stylist Law Roach, who has been collaborating with Zendaya on her looks since the star was 14, has also had a hand in crafting the Zendaya x Hilfiger collaboration. We can’t wait to hear more before it debuts in Spring 2019.
