The health benefits of breastfeeding are plentiful and have long been acknowledged. According to the CDC, breastfeeding allows moms to share antibodies with their little ones through their milk, which helps them develop strong immune systems while providing protection against illnesses.
Nursing moms also benefit from a lower risk of breast and ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Oh, and did I mention that the hormones moms release when they breastfeed help the uterus shrink back to its pre-pregnancy size?
But tennis star and mom of two Serena Williams just discovered another amazing benefit of mama’s milk, and as a mom who breastfed two kids, I have to say, it’s freakin’ genius.
In a Dec. 2 TikTok video, Williams, whose daughter Adira was born in August, gets real about using her leftover lady nectar to treat sunburn on her face.
“So I completely got burned under my eye. Don’t ask. I was doing this like retinol and clearing my skin. I have sensitive skin, and I was in the sun, so…long story,” she says in the clip, which has since received over 48,000 views.
Williams went on to tell her viewers that she’s trying to use breast milk on her burn for a week to see if it provides relief because “it works for my kid” and “they say, put breast milk on everything, and I have a lot extra.”
It looks like the tennis champ may have actually stumbled onto something – a free, all-natural remedy for sunburn.
“OK is this totally weird??? I have to say, after a week of using MY breast milk under my eye — it worked! I’m dying to hear your thoughts,” Williams captioned her post.
Viewers did not waste time sharing their thoughts. Some shared alternative remedies like castor oil and aloe vera. Others had their minds blown by the idea.
“I just learned something Damm,” wrote one user in the comments.
We’ll see if Williams starts a trend.
