The Huffington Post reports that Serena Williams is likely to miss upcoming tournaments (she recently told the New York Post that she planned on playing in the French Open) after having emergency surgery for a pulmonary embolism (a lung blood clot).
She is not expected to play the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Fla. Nicole Chabot, Williams' representative, said "doctors are continuing to monitor her situation closely."
The 29-year-old was treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
