Serena Williams won another Grand Slam event this weekend, this time in Australia. This is her fifth time winning the event Down Under. It came in a thrillling hard-fought battle with Justine Henin. The match went to the full three sets, 6-4,3-5, 6-3 and left both players and fans exhausted. This was her 12 Grand Slam title, tying her with Billie Jean King and leaving her six behind Chris Evert. Williams is halfway to the 24 titles held by Margaret Court, who was present in Melbourne to award the championship trophy. Williams played through pain to win. Her right thigh, and her left knee and wrist were wrapped, as they have been throughout the tournament. She grimaced throughout the final match and hobbled at times in the epic struggle with Henin. She and her sister, Venus, also won the doubles title, their 11th major in this category. Serena is the only active woman player to own a Grand Slam.
