The video for Canadian group BadBadNotGood’s song “Lavender,” featuring Snoop Dogg and Kaytranada, is catching criticism after Snoop Dogg assassinated a clownlike Trump character.
In the Suicide Squad-like video, directed by Jesse Wellens and James DeFina, Michael Rapaport stars as a clown (not to be confused with real life) who gets shot by a clown cop. The video then turns to the current political climate, with a clown President Klump giving political addresses but ending up getting shot by Snoop.
Snoop spoke with Billboard about using the clown as a metaphor for the presidency.
“The ban that this motherfucker tried to put up—him winning the presidency; police being able to kill motherfuckers and get away with it; people being in jail for weed for 20, 30 years; and motherfuckers that’s not black on the streets making money off of it—but if you got color or ethnicity connected to your name, you’ve been wrongfully accused or locked up for it, and then you watching people not of color position themselves to get millions and billions off of it,” Snoop explained.
“It’s a lot of clown shit going on that we could just sit and talk on the phone all day about, but it’s a few issues that we really wanted to lock into [for the video], like police, the president and just life in general,” he added.
Well, the caricature of Trump as Klump didn’t sit well with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). In an interview with TMZ, Rubio expressed his displeasure.
“Snoop shouldn’t have done that,” he said. “We’ve had presidents assassinated before in this country, so anything like that is something people should be really careful about.” He went on to say that if the “wrong person sees that and gets the wrong idea, you could have a real problem.”
I’m sure Snoop is somewhere not giving a damn about Rubio right about now.
