Should he or shouldn’t he have stepped down? It’s a question that’s been under heavy debate in the two days since President Joe Biden bowed out of the election race. Bakari Sellers, CNN political commentator and the former South Carolina House of Representative, is one of the many voices who disliked the treatment of Biden — specifically Democrats insistence that he leave the race.
“Democrats should be embarrassed by the way President Biden was treated by his own colleagues the last month. He is one of the most transformative Presidents of a generation. That fight is over. I dare not wage into another. Kamala Harris is battle tested and battle ready. I look forward to working damn hard to make her the next President of the United States,” Sellers tweeted on X.
His tweet launched a myriad of viewpoints — some of which agreed with Sellers and others not so much.
“They told him the truth for the greater good. Him trying to finish a complete thought and the forgetfulness was embarrassing,” One tweet stated, while others critiqued the phrase “battle tested” to describe Harris, which claimed that Harris has done nothing to prove she’s ready for Presidency.
Another tweet pointed out that the way the Democratic party handled the passing of the baton was “ridiculous.”
Former President Barack Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and many more democratic delegates called for Biden to consider his future in the 2024 election after his performance for the debate.
Harris has earned enough support from Democratic delegates to become the nominee, but results for the president and vice president still need to be certified at next month’s Democratic National Convention (DNC).
Harris also garnered at least $81 million in under 24 hours in campaign donations since Biden dropped out. That amount has now amassed to $100 million in total.
