After a very public, very messy years-spanning feud, Mo’Nique and director Lee Daniels have finally reunited. Fortunately for fans of the 2009 film “Precious,” the reunion will take place on-screen.
Mo’Nique costars in the spooky Daniels film “The Deliverance,” set to hit Netflix later this year. Inspired by a “true story” the film’s synopsis reads: “After moving into a mysterious house, a struggling mother must face down her demons in order to save her children’s souls.”
The project stars Andra Day, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and Glenn Close alongside Mo’Nique. Check out the haunting trailer below:
As The Root previously reported, Daniels and Lee finally reconciled their differences in 2022, 13 years after it began. If you remember, the fued stemmed from the comedian’s decision not to participate in the “Precious” awards campaign as it meant her spending less time with her family.
While Mo’Nique went on to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, she publicly accused the film’s producers (Daniels, Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry) of blackballing her.
In 2022, Daniels joined Mo’Nique on stage at her “Mo’Nique and Friends: April Fools Day with The Queen of Comedy” show on Staten Island, saying to her, “I am so sorry for hurting you in any way that I did.”
Daniels opened up to Essence this week about working with Mo’Nique once again, calling their reconciliation, “Unreal, unbelievable, magical feeling, a joy, all of it. It was perfect.”
“Listen, we picked right up,” he told the outlet. “It was like the 15 years of our argument hadn’t even happened. We just stepped right back into the groove of her jumping into character, and she is a tour de force. The two of us together are crazy. We make magic.”
“The Deliverance” hits Netflix Aug. 30.
