It looks like Texas Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson wasn't the only Congressional Black Caucus member using her position to direct scholarship money to friends and relatives. According to Politico, Rep. Sanford Bishop of Georgia is accused of improperly steering three scholarships to family members between 2003 and 2005. A spokesperson for Bishop claims that the CBC did not update its guidelines for administering scholarships until 2008, so it was unclear that he could not direct the funds to relatives. Come again? Some things are better left unsaid, and that statement is one of them. Perhaps if Johnson and Bishop spent more time advertising the scholarships and less time "directing" them to family members, there would be no need for asinine excuses for unethical behavior.
