On Thursday’s episode of “The Sherri Show,” “A Different World” star and recent Emmy-winner Jasmine Guy revealed a little known detail between her and late rapper Tupac.
During their interview, Guy explained to host Sherri Shepherd that after Tupac got shot in New York back in 1994, he stayed with her while he recovered because she had a lower profile in the industry at the time and no one knew they were friends. How did they become friends? Well, it happened after his 1993 appearance in the first season of “ADW” and through a mutual connection you probably already guessed by now: Jada Pinkett-Smith.
“Well, the development was after the shooting in New York,” Guy said. “First of all, I was hanging out with Tupac because he was good friends with Jada [Pinkett Smith]. We were always hanging out after the show.”
She went on to explain how after the shooting, she and Pinkett-Smith went to go visit him at the hospital but he had already left by the time they arrived to see about him.
“He didn’t feel safe there. He did just get shot,” she explained. “He felt like a sitting duck. And because I had a low profile and they didn’t know we were friends... It kinda felt like The Diary of Anne Frank because I couldn’t tell anybody that he was there.”
Guy shared that Pac and his family took up residence at her home while he healed for a few weeks and that they were a welcomed but rambunctious crowd. She also shared how she told the Shakurs how everyone would have to leave Pac’s room by 10p.m. in order to keep things calm and peaceful—but that house rule didn’t last long.
Of Pac’s family, Guy recalled them telling her: “You don’t understand. We’re the Shakurs. We’re gonna show you how to have a family life.’ It was fun, other than the stress of it.”
