In the latest war of words between Republican presidential contenders Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator implied that he would take four more years of Obama over "Etch A Sketch" Romney, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Santorum was referring to the Romney campaign's latest gaffe, in which one of the former governor's top aides said that the candidate could switch focus from the primaries to general election like an Etch A Sketch. "You can kind of shake it up and we start all over again," Eric Fehrnstrom told CNN earlier this week.
Santorum made his comment Thursday in San Antonio on a campaign stop. Santorum repeated his claims that Romney is not conservative enough and wouldn't be much of a change if elected into office.
"You win by giving people a choice. You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," the former Pennsylvania senator said, adding: "If they’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk of what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate for the future."
Upon hearing of Santorum's comments, Romney went on the offensive, according to the Daily News. "This election is more important than any one person … Any of the Republicans running would be better than President Obama and his record of failure," said Romney in a statement.
Newt Gingrich echoed Romney's sentiments by posting on Twitter, "Rick Santorum is dead wrong. Any GOP nominee will be better than Obama."
