Sam Rivers dead at 88: Jazz musician Sam Rivers died of a pneumonia on Monday in Orlando, Fla. The 88-year-old saxophonist and composer played alongside greats such as Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock.

The big payback: FEMA is looking to collect more than $385 million that it says was improperly distributed to Hurricane Katrina victims. The agency mailed out 83,000 debt notices this year to those affected by that and other 2005 storms. You can bet the notices aren't sitting well with storm victims.
