Welp, that was quick.
Ronda Rousey was (technically) knocked da f—k out in less than a minute Friday night as she fell to bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207.
Unfortunately for Rousey, the 28-year-old Brazilian was relentless from the very beginning and ended the fight in about 48 seconds.
The New York Daily News reports that Rousey staggered and stumbled backward while Nunes relentlessly pursued her and landed multiple shots to her face. Referee Herb Dean stopped the bout with Rousey still on her feet, and though she protested the stoppage, she soon left the cage in her mother’s arms.
Rousey, probably one of the more famous UFC fighters, certainly the most famous female fighter, was coming back from a 13-month absence after losing her belt to Holly Holm in her first career defeat in November 2015.
Rousey nearly vanished from public view after that loss. The bantamweight belt changed hands two more times in her absence, and Rousey agreed to return for a shot at reclaiming her title.
Although the 29-year-old will most likely not return to the UFC ring, she got a nice payday for this last fight. Rousey reportedly received a guaranteed $3 million, matching Conor McGregor for the biggest disclosed check in UFC history.
