Asked whether bringing up his father's Mexican birthplace is helping him win the votes of Florida's Latino community, Mitt Romney replied on Fox and Friends, "You know, I wish I could claim that I'm Hispanic," adding, "It would help me with the Latino community here in Florida and around the country, but my dad was born of American parents living in Mexico."
Romney's background is interesting, but the most notable aspect of the exchange was the rare moment of honesty about ethnicity, identity and political calculations.
