Kevin Hart to perform at Essence: Organizers say that Hart, hot on the heels of his starring role in last weekend's No. 1 film, Think Like a Man, will debut his comedic talents during the festival scheduled for July 6-8 at the Superdome. Hart joins a lineup that includes Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, Charlie Wilson, Ledisi, Fantasia and Eve.
Chuck Brown cancels concerts: Go-go legend Chuck Brown has postponed his May concerts, his reps announced Monday night. The Washington Post reports that the 75-year-old had to cancel his scheduled show last weekend at the newly reopened Howard Theatre when he entered a hospital for joint pain and inflammation.
Black former Miss America mulls House bid: Attorney Erika Harold, who was Miss America 2003, told Roll Call today that she's considering a bid for retiring Rep. Timothy Johnson's (R-Ill.) seat. "I am exploring the possibility, but I haven't made any decisions at this point," Harold told the Hill. "I feel that I might have a unique perspective to offer at this point in time as a young woman who understands some of the concerns that young people face in this economic condition."
