Rihanna has joined the likes of Arthur Ashe and James Earl Jones after being named the 2017 Harvard University Humanitarian of the Year. Rihanna will be on Harvard’s campus next Tuesday to accept the Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award.
The university made the announcement Wednesday and noted the singer’s charitable contributions, which include a center she built in her native Barbados to diagnose diagnose and treat breast cancer.
Harvard Foundation Director S. Allen Counter stated, “She has also created the Clara and Lionel Foundation Scholarship Program [named for her grandmother and grandfather] for students attending college in the U.S. from Caribbean countries, and supports the Global Partnership for Education and Global Citizen Project, a multiyear campaign that will provide children with access to education in over 60 developing countries, giving priority to girls and those affected by lack of access to education in the world today.”
From being a Harvard honoree to sipping on a bedazzled flask during the Grammys, Rihanna is the epitome of “Get you a woman who can do both.”
