The unspeakable destruction caused by Hurricane Dorian has destroyed far more than just property in the Bahamas. Thankfully, pop princess Rihanna has pledged to help restore what was lost.
The 31-year-old mogul in the making took to Twitter to empathize with those affected by the storm and offered the support of the Clara Lionel Foundation, her nonprofit founded in 2012.
“It truly breaks my heart to see the complete devastation that #HurricaneDorian is having on the Bahamas!” she tweeted. “You are in our prayers and @ClaraLionelFdn is already figuring out how best we can help! #HurricaneDorain #Bahamas”
Rapper and actor Ludacris pledged similar support:
“Over 100k Raised over The Weekend!!” Luda captioned in a photo on Instagram announcing his intention to donate proceeds from LudaDay Weekend to a relief fund for victims of Hurricane Dorian. “THANK YOU TO ALL WHO SHOWED UP AND SHOWED OUT!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 NOW WATCH ME WORK!!”
Other recording artists such as Pharrell and Rick Ross took the time to publicly express sympathy as well:
As previously reported at The Root, at least seven casualties have been confirmed in what Prime Minister Hubert Minnis called “one of the greatest national crises in our country’s history,” one that will require “a massive coordinated effort to rebuild.”
After grazing the coasts of Florida and Georgia, Hurricane Dorian is currently poised to pummel the Carolinas.
“All interests from northeast Florida to the Carolinas should remain vigilant to the possibility of experiencing destructive winds, flooding rains, and life-threatening storm surges from this hurricane,” the National Hurricane Center warned.
