Politics Daily is reporting that former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is defending Michelle Obama in her "food fight" with Sarah Palin, who says the first lady needs to mind her business. Huckabee knows a thing or two about obesity. Huckabee, who lost more than 100 pounds after learning in 2003 that he had diabetes, says that fellow Republican Sarah Palin maybe doesn't get it when it comes to the first lady's campaign against childhood obesity. Huckabee, a once and possibly future presidential candidate, told New York radio host Curtis Sliwa that Obama is on to something important. "With all due respect to my colleague and friend Sarah Palin, I think she's misunderstood what Michelle Obama is trying to do," Huckabee said. "Michelle Obama's not trying to tell people what to eat or force government's desires on people. She's stating the obvious: that we have an obesity crisis in this country." Huckabee also raised the fact that 25 percent of people who want to serve in the armed forces cannot do so because of obesity.

How sad is it that Huckabee has to explain to his fellow Republican that the country is facing an epidemic that has far-reaching consequences? What could possibly be wrong with promoting healthy eating to children? We're not sure what world Sarah Palin lives in, but we're glad we're not in it.
