Kristen Sze, an ABC news anchor in San Francisco, felt the wrath of Twitter when she had the audacity to question the price of Sasha and Malia Obama’s state-dinner dresses.

According to Sze, the gowns ranged in price from $17,000- to $20,000, and she deemed them “too expensive” for such young girls. Never mind that they could easily have been on loan from the designers.

In an already deleted tweet, Sze asked her Twitter followers if they would pay that price for dresses for their teenagers.

And in typical fashion, those who aren’t fans of the first family used the tweet as an opportunity to bash them.

But Twitter wasn’t having it.

After the backlash, Sze apparently realized the horror of her ways and issued an apology:

And for the record, according to Joanna Rosholm, press secretary to the first lady, the government isn’t paying for any of the first family’s wardrobe: “Mrs. Obama pays for her clothing. For official events of public or historic significance, such as a state visit, the first lady’s clothes may be given as a gift by a designer and accepted on behalf of the U.S. government. They are then stored by the National Archives.”
