Round Lake Park, Ill., police say that a man who was apprehended early Sunday on charges of possession of a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun told them that he acquired the gun through social media, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Osvaldo Colon 21, faces charges including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of cannabis after being pulled over by Round Lake Park Police around 1 a.m. Sunday.
According to Police Chief George Filenko, the police officer conducting the stop smelled marijuana coming from Colon’s vehicle, and Colon told the officer that in his glove box was a loaded .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun, which, he told police, was recently bought through a social media site, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Colon was arrested and ordered held on $50,000 bail. The police are now working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to see if the weapon was used in any unsolved crimes, the site notes.
