A Republican congressman from Wisconsin has offered a personal apology to first lady Michelle Obama after he was overheard at an airport lounge criticizing her "large posterior."

Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner reportedly said she "lectures us on eating right while she has a large posterior herself." Zinger! Not really …

Yahoo News reports that he sent a personal note to Obama apologizing for his remarks. "I regret my inappropriate comment, and I have sent a personal note to the first lady apologizing," he said.

We wonder if, in addition to its "inappropriate" nature, he apologized for the comment being gross (Why were you looking?), tacky (As a member of Congress, you really thought that was an acceptable thing to say about the first lady?), desperate (How funny is it that this made-up "She talks about health but she's not skinny" thing is the only thing people can come up with when they want to criticize Michelle?) and illogical (The prominence of one's "posterior" has about as much to do with obesity as does the size of her breasts — and in any case, Michelle is far from overweight). Doubt it.
