Regina Hall is starring in Barbershop: The Next Cut, which is out Friday. This is the third film in the Barbershop series. The last, Barbershop 2: Back in Business, was released in 2004, so it’s been 12 years since the gang was together, and the franchise has added a lot of new, fresh faces.
Hall said it was important to Ice Cube for the movie to have a purpose and meaning. The Next Cut provided a perfect backdrop for the violence in Chicago to help shine light on what’s going on right now.
Hall’s character, Angie, has joined forces with Calvin’s (Ice Cube) shop, and now there’s a whole new set of women in the film. In the first two films, Eve was the only woman representing in the barbershop, but now The Next Cut features Hall, Nicki Minaj and all the women who come to get their hair laid at Angie’s salon. Hall tells The Root, “All the ladies bring a really amazing female point of view that they didn’t have as much of in the other one.”
