There are two things Drake excels at effortlessly: making “shopping mall” music (per Mos Def) and being a hot topic.
When he’s not shading the Grammys, throwing sneak disses at Rihanna on tour and being accused of leaking controversial photos, he reportedly shows Tory Lanez—the man convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2022—love on social media.
On Monday, the “For All The Dogs” rapper made the baffling decision to post an Instagram story that showed a photo of Lanez captioned “3 you.” This has led folks to speculate that he’s calling for Lanez to be freed from prison.
Lanez—born Daystar Peterson—received a 10-year sentence last summer after being convicted of discharging a firearm with gross negligence, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
The violent incident between Lanez and Megan occurred in 2020, when prosecutors stated that Lanez fired a gun at Meg after she got out of an SUV during a verbal altercation. The shooting left the “Savage” emcee with bullet fragments in her feet.
This isn’t the first time Drake referenced the 2020 shooting. Back in 2022, Drake and 21 Savage released the joint album“Her Loss.” On the song “Circo Loco,” Drake rapped: “This b**ch lie ‘bout getting shots/But she still a stallion/She don’t even get the joke, but she still smiling.”
Megan seemingly hit back earlier this year with “Hiss,” where she insinuated Drake may be a rapper who had cosmetic work done. “These ni**as hate on BBL’s/And be walking around with the same scars,” she rapped on the song.
However, she never named any of her foes—including the extremely unhinged Nicki Minaj—directly on the song. Drake has a reputation of being petty toward Black women, but posting Lanez to apparently get to Meg is unacceptable.
