During Monday’s episode of The View, the panel of hosts took on the subject of fat-shaming. During the segment, Raven-Symoné shared an interesting story about her weight loss and how she was forced to wear a fat suit for a sitcom.
At one point in her life, Raven-Symoné lost a lot of weight, and while she was appearing on the ABC Family comedy State of Georgia, she says, fat was in and her skinny body wasn’t popular.
"I felt like when I lost all my weight, like, big-girl season came. It was, like, so many big girls that are now famous, and I was over here, like, starving," she said.
When Whoopi Goldberg chimed in, stating that Raven-Symoné was famous when she was a big girl, Raven-Symoné continued to tell how her weight loss wasn't what shows were looking for.
"I wouldn't get my show unless I looked a certain way, things of that nature," Raven-Symoné replied.
When Goldberg shared her own story about how a director didn't appreciate her when she was smaller, Raven-Symoné opened up about the fat suit.
"They did that to me! On State of Georgia, they had me wear a fat suit," she said. "Because they said I wasn't the size they wanted me to be."
Hollywood obviously can't make up its mind when it comes to which body types are acceptable, especially when it comes to women.
