We all know how chaotic the internet can be. Everyone is basically one wrong step, one misunderstanding, or one misquoted comment away from becoming public enemy No. 1. While that scorn is at times deserved, in plenty of instances it’s absolutely not.
Raven-Symoné’s wife, Miranda Maday, fits in the latter category. And yet, she became the subject of extreme internet harassment for the most nonsensical of reasons.
During the couple’s recent appearance on the “Bottoms Up with Fannita” podcast, Maday confessed that when she and and her wife first met, she wasn’t super into “That’s So Raven” because she didn’t grow up watching it. She explained that she may have been a little too old for the show when it aired, but that her younger sister loved it.
This admission sent the former Disney star’s fans into a frenzy and they began harassing Maday and sending her death threats. It’s absolutely wild that this has to be said out loud, but if you’re sending a complete stranger death threats over a children’s show that aired 20 years ago, your life has taken a bad turn. The only person who gets to be remotely bothered by this is Raven-Symone, and She clearly doesn’t care so the rest of y’all need to sit down somewhere and relax. And for what it’s worth, Maday revealed that since they’ve been together, she’s watched the popular series, and loves it.
Raven and Maday addressed the situation on TikTok Thursday, posting a video where they demanded a halt to the threats.
“I’m here with Miranda, my wife, to tell you to stop it in the comments and stop with the death threats in her DMs,” Raven-Symone said. “It is disrespectful to her and in turn disrespectful to me. Stop it.”
“I’m receiving so much hate for something that is really just a spiral of misinformation,” Maday added.
“I never have once said that I did not know who Raven was. I only have ever said that I did not grow up watching ‘That’s So Raven.’ I did not watch her as a child,” Maday continued. “But since getting married and meeting her in 2015, I have seen the majority of her work.”
Raven wrapped up the clip by telling “all of the blue checks out there acting like trolls” to “sit down.”
The internet often goes too far in its criticism of those in the public eye, but inserting yourself into the small details of someone’s marriage is weird. Taking that meddling to the level where you send your favorite star’s spouse death threats is inappropriate, unacceptable and troubling.
Raven-Symoné obviously loves her wife and doesn’t need you to defend her. Go outside, get some air and get yourself together.
