Rapper Bobby Shmurda, born Ackquille Pollard, was arrested and held on $2 million bail and is facing a number of “gang conspiracy” and gun charges. The Miami-born rapper is said to be tied to gang-related shootings, drug crimes and acts of violence. Pollard, 20, was arrested during a sting operation after he left a recording studio in New York City. During his arrest, police recovered two handguns and some crack cocaine in the car he was riding in, authorities said.
According to the Associated Press, court records show that Pollard shot a gun toward a crowd of people outside a barbershop in Brooklyn, N.Y., earlier this year. The documents also allege that the rapper was present last year during a confrontation between rival drug gangs outside a Brooklyn courthouse where shots were fired.
Pollard’s attorney, Howard Greenberg, attempted to convince a judge that his client should be released without bail, but the judge didn’t agree. Greenberg stated that Pollard was framed and would not run from the law.
“He is a legitimate entertainer,” Greenberg said. “He is rich. He is busy. He is always on tour.”
This isn’t Pollard's first run-in with the law. Pollard, who occasionally brags that his drug- and gang-related music matches his lifestyle, has previous arrests on gun and drug-possession charges. The newest charges carry a sentence of eight to 25 years.
