WSBTV.com is reporting that popular Atlanta bishop Johnathan Alvarado is under investigation by the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office for possible "crimes against children." The office confirmed that Alvarado is under investigation but would not confirm why, although their website lists possible "crimes against children." Alvarado has been at the helm of Total Grace Christian Center since 1992, after having served as minister of music for several area churches, including New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, led by Bishop Eddie Long.

The church's website credits Alvarado with having grown the congregation to 5,000 members. He is married and has three children. His wife, Toni, is co-pastor of the church.

Is it really surprising that there is another mega-church scandal involving a pastor and possibly predatory behavior toward children? Not really. If this keeps up, there may be a scandal in the Baptist Church as big as the one involving the Catholic Church. How sad is it that folks use the pulpit to prey on children (pun intended)? What's even sadder is that adults sit idly by and let it happen.
