From the moment they went public with their relationship Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been the subject of non-stop rumors and speculation. When they decided to leave the British Royal family and move to North America in 2020, the trolls and gossip mongers were positive that it would signal the end of their marriage. That didn’t happen, but the Duke and Duchess of Sussex still find themselves as the constant target of divorce rumors.
As the couple has pursued separate professional endeavors and appeared at events without one another, the speculation about their marriage has gotten even louder. On Wednesday, While speaking with Andrew Ross Sorkin at The New York Times’ DealBook Summit, Harry addressed the endless tabloid headlines, confirming that it’s “definitely not a good thing.” However, he also joked about the ridiculous nonsense that follows them.
“We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So, it’s just like, what? It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it,” he said. “The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls. Their hopes are just built and built…and then it doesn’t happen. So, I feel sorry for them.”
For her part, back in March at the SXSW festival, Meghan expressed gratitude for her husband’s support as a partner.
“I’m fortunate in that amongst the privileges that I have in my life, I have an incredible partner,” she said. “My husband is such a hands-on dad and such a supporter of me and our family, and that I don’t take for granted. That is a real blessing but a lot of people don’t have that same level of support.”
No matter how you feel about Harry and Meghan, you have to admit the wild amount of scrutiny surrounding their marriage is ridiculous. Based on the endless stories about Harry’s possible reconciliation with his father, King Charles, it’s clear that British tabloids won’t be leaving them alone anytime soon.
However, at some point the trolls need to realize that these two are happy with their lives and move on from the weird speculation.
