President Barack Obama held an in-depth press conference Wednesday on his recent Iran deal, and journalist April Ryan took the opportunity to question the president about the Bill Cosby scandal, asking if Obama would revoke the embattled comedian’s Presidential Medal of Freedom, presented to him in 2002.
Many people would like to see the medal that was given to Cosby by then-President George W. Bush rescinded, and a petition on the White House’s site has close to 90,000 signatures. According to President Obama, there isn’t a precedent when it comes to taking away a medal, but he did share his thoughts on Cosby, although he didn’t mention his name specifically.
“If you give a woman, or a man, for that matter, without his or her knowledge, a drug, and then have sex with that person without consent, that’s rape. And I think this country, any civilized country, should have no tolerance for rape,” the president stated.
Well, we can guess who won’t be coming to dinner at the White House anytime soon.
