President Barack Obama sat down with The Today Show's Matt Lauer to discuss education reform in this country. During the discussion, the president stated, "Money without reform will not fix the problem." He suggested that a "vigorous reform agenda" — including increased standards, great teachers, reduced bureaucracy and more resources — needs to be deployed effectively. He also believes that a longer school year will enhance student performance. How sad is it that these are not already clear objectives in education? Is there any wonder why our public school system is in such disarray? What will it really take to fix the public school system?
