What sounds like hibernation but is oppressive? Discrimination! Pregnant women and expectant couples are having trouble getting mortgages. Mortgage lenders are taking a "harder look" at prospective borrowers because their income may temporarily decline while they are on leave. This hesitancy includes new parents at home taking care of a baby. Even if a parent plans on returning to work within weeks, some lenders are shying away from approving the loans. How cute? Mortgage companies care about whether people can afford to actually pay the mortgage. Since when? Clearly from this mortgage and mass foreclosure debacle, there is no guarantee that people not expecting children will pay their mortgage. Sounds like discrimination to us. Perhaps the mortgage companies should focus more on monitoring their predatory behavior than the behavior of full-grown adults.
