Sad news to report in regards to the Starz hit drama, Power.
According to Deadline, Pedro Jimenez, a production assistant, was fatally struck by a 2006 Ford Explorer at around 4:30 Monday morning while setting up for a Brooklyn shoot that day. He was pronounced dead at Brooklyn hospital this morning.
Jimenez has been on staff with the Power crew since it debuted in 2014.
NYPD is investigating the matter and is speaking with the driver of the SUV, who is reported to have also been a member of the television series’ crew. A Starz spokesperson confirmed with The Root that the incident happened on location and did not occur during filming.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of the members of our Power family. Our thoughts are with Mr. Jimenez’ family as we work to fully understand what has happened,” per a Starz statement.
The spokesperson also confirmed production has been shut down on a temporary basis out of respect for the families of those involved so that the cast and crew will have sufficient time to process the loss. No cast members were on set when the tragic incident occurred.
“My prayers and condolences are with the entire Jimenez family,” wrote executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson on his Instagram.
The Starz crime drama, created by Courtney Kemp and starring Omari Hardwick, La La Anthony and Naturi Naughton will also be going on holiday break soon.
R.I.P., Pedro Jimenez. Our condolences go out to his family.

Power creator and showrunner Courtney Kemp paid a heartwarming tribute to Jimenez on her Instagram page Wednesday. According to Deadline, Jimenez will be transported to the Dominican Republic following his wake in New York. His family has created a GoFundMe page to cover costs, which has raised over $53,000 at the time of this post.
“If you are a fan of Power and have enjoyed our show, please know it takes hundreds of people to make the series that you enjoy,” Kemp wrote in her post caption. “Pedro was one of those people. Pray for him and for his family. Tell your loved ones how you feel about them so they know for sure.”
