On Saturday night, off-duty police officer, Darryl Jouett and his wife, had just finished eating dinner in a Cincinnati, Ohio restaurant when, they boarded a parking garage elevator. Jouett then took a gun out of his pocket and somehow discharged the weapon, shooting himself in the abdomen.

Surveillance video of the incident shows Jouett, who is a police officer in Kentucky; fall to his knees, clutching his side. The woman, who news reports identified as Jouett's wife, frantically rushes to his aide, then, grabs her phone to call for help.

"It's very unusual — obviously you have somebody that's used to handling firearms," Capt. Mike John, of Cincinnati police told WCPO-TV. "It's very unusual to see somebody discharge a firearm, accidentally, in a confined space like that. It’s very unusual."
