A 41-year-old Queens, N.Y., resident confessed to killing his 8-year-old son before trying to kill himself, the New York Post reports.
The father was found with cuts to his wrist. According to the Post, a 2-gallon bucket of blood found in the bathroom is believed to be from the man’s wounds. The child’s bloodied clothes were also there, the Post reported.
The boy was found on another bed with trauma to his neck, police sources told the Post. The dad confessed to strangling the child when first responders arrived at the scene, the Post reported.
Authorities were alerted when a woman called 911, saying that there was a man inside his apartment taking pills and trying to kill himself, the Post reported. She was worried about the boy.
The man and his wife had apparently been prone to loud arguments, neighbors told authorities, to the point where she had left for a time before returning to make up, according to the Post. The wife was not home at the time of the incident. The identities of the man and boy were being withheld until the authorities could notify her and other family members.
