The latest in the Drake-Pusha T rap throwdown is that Push had to take down a photo of Drake in blackface after the photographer said that the GOOD Music artist had no right to use the image.
Pusha’s response to Drake’s “Duppy Freestyle,” “The Story of Adidon” (itself a response to Pusha’s “Infrared”), has been the talk of the town all day Wednesday, not only because the clapback was severe, but because Push found and posted a photo of a young Aubrey in blackface, a curious development, since Drake is black.
However, the photographer, David Leyes, did not approve Pusha T’s use of the image, and so Instagram removed it, according to a post Push put up Wednesday.
There is, however, more intel about the image of Drake doing his best Al Jolson impression. Apparently, the pic was originally used as part of a promotion for a clothing line called Jim Crow Couture from Canadian fashion label Too Black Guys.
The Jasmine Brand reports that Leyes responded to a comment about the photo on Twitter (since deleted), saying that he was proud of it and writing: “For sure I took it! I’m proud to be part of a strong statement made by a black man about the f*cked up culture he is living in.”
The outlet also reports that Leyes’ website has since crashed because of a larger-than-usual amount of traffic.
Even though Pusha Terrence had to take the photo down, it makes no never mind now, since it is out there. The only thing left is to wait and see how quickly Drake responds to—or, more like explains—these allegations.
Whatever will be, this sure is better than hearing about Donald Trump every day.
