Earlier this month, a Pennsylvania community was left shocked after a son and his mother were both shot during a brutal home invasion. A city-wide manhunt ensued, but now, the public is finally getting some answers.

According to a police statement, suspects Kelvin Roberts, 42, and his boss Charles Fulforth, 41, have both been arrested for the murder of 25-year-old Andrew Gaudio and the shooting of his 61-year-old mother, Bernadette.

Gaudio was killed during a home invasion, and according to officials, he wasn’t the original target. According to Montgomery County police, the suspects robbed the wrong home after an employee at their junk removal business tipped the duo off about guns allegedly inside a Bucks County house.

“The motive in this case was to steal guns and they simply got the wrong house,” Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said in a statement. “They went into the wrong house with bad intentions and shot an innocent 61-year-old woman as she lay in her bed and they executed her 25-year-old son. And I say executed because Andrew was shot in the back of the head as he lay down on the floor of his mother’s bedroom and he was facedown when that shot to the back of the head came.”

The Home Invasion

According to a statement made by DA’s office, officials responded to a 911 call reporting a home invasion. When they arrived to the scene, police found Gaudio dead and his mother alive but in critical condition.

As the investigation into the home invasion continued, police eventually found dashcam footage which captured a white Hyundai Azera driven by the suspect — later identified as 42-year-old Roberts — leaving the scene of the homicide, according to the statement.

Police recovered a jewelry box belonging to Bernadette at a Philadelphia home linked to the suspects. According to ABC News, Bernadette’s Jeep Cherokee was also stolen during the home invasion but has now been recovered in West Philadelphia.

“The jewelry box is key in that it shows that they were in the house, they committed a burglary, a robbery, a home invasion, and we have the evidence of that in the jewelry box,” District Attorney Kevin Steele said, according to CBS News.

The Hunt

Interestingly enough, Roberts was already wanted by police before the fatal home invasion. “He’s wanted on a theft by receiving stolen property charge out of North Wales. He’s wanted for a burglary out of Philadelphia,” Steele said.

On Dec. 11, police obtained an arrest warrant for Fulforth, and the following day, he was arrested. According to the police statement, Fulforth was carrying two bags with tools, gun parts and ammunition during his arrest. On Dec. 17, Roberts was arrested as well.

Roberts is charged with first-degree murder, robbery, burglary and other related offenses. He is being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.
