A portion of music legend Aretha Franklin’s extensive wardrobe will be up for auction on Saturday, Nov. 10, at New York City’s Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square. World-breaking auction house, Julien’s Auctions, which specializes in film, music, sports, and art auctions, will be selling more than 30 stage dresses and accessories worn by the Queen of Soul as part of the Los Angeles-based auction house’s two-day music extravaganza, Icons & Idols: Rock-n-Roll.
Franklin’s collection will be presented alongside items and recordings from Michael Jackson (including his Bad jacket and gloves), Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Destiny’s Child, the custom-made “Pyramid” jacket worn by Madonna in Desperately Seeking Susan, and more.
A famed auction house, Julien’s has twice received placements in the Guinness Book of World Records, first in 2009 for the $480,000 sale of Michael Jackson’s white glove, then in 2016 for the sale of Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birthday Mr. President” dress, which was the world’s most expensive dress ever sold at auction, for $4.8 million.
One can only wonder what one of the Queen of Soul’s legendarily over-the-top stage outfits will ultimately go for, but we’re pretty sure it’s out of our budget.
