Sigh.
It seems as though outgoing Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio hasn't gotten the memo that no one cares about his problematic points of views (even after eight years of most of us rolling our eyes).
On Thursday, Arpaio, who has earned the title "America's Toughest Sheriff," announced the results of a yearslong investigation that he says proves President Barack Obama's birth certificate is a forgery, BuzzFeed reports.
“I do not care where the president was born. It had nothing to do with that. We were going to investigate a possibly forged document,” Arpaio told reporters (although it is pretty obvious that he does care). “What we’ve concluded is that it’s a fraudulently created document that has been represented as an official copy of the original birth certificate of President Obama.”
Arpaio is making noise as his own term comes to an end since he was voted out of office following several legal problems involving racial profiling. Back in October, the 84-year-old was officially charged with criminal contempt of court for ignoring a judge's orders to stop racially profiling Latinos in his signature immigration patrols. He still faces possible jail time.
Despite his recent woes, it seems as if Arpaio, the most insistent leader of the Birther movement, has refused to let this particular bone go despite the fact that the conspiracy theory surrounding the president's place of birth has long been debunked, as BuzzFeed notes.
Maricopa County Chief Investigator Mike Zullo cited what he said were forensic results from the two investigations, one done in Hawaii and one in Italy, claiming that Obama's long-form birth certificate was actually forged using one belonging to a Johanna Ah'Nee.
“Words, letters and hand-placed date stamps have been digitally copied from Ah’Nee’s birth certificate and pasted onto Obama’s long-form birth certificate,” Zullo told reporters. “We’re pretty confident with these results.”
Zullo said there were nine points of forgery on Obama's birth certificate, including dates, stamps, markings and angles. He also said that both firms independently concluded that Obama's birth certificate was forged, BuzzFeed reports.
“This carries federal penalties,” Zullo added.
“I hope we enlightened you to what the real story and evidence is all about regarding this fake, fake birth certificate,” Arpaio said.
Sure, Arpaio. Sure.
