Oscar Voter Says Selma Snub Is Because There’s ‘No Art to It’

There’s one Oscar voter out there who had some scathing words for some of the top movies up for awards this Sunday, especially for Selma. The anonymous female member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences says she found Selma to be artless and the fact that the cast wore “I Can’t Breathe” T-shirts to be offensive.

“When a movie about black people is good, members vote for it,” the voter told the Hollywood Reporter. “But if the movie isn’t that good, am I supposed to vote for it just because it has black people in it?” she asked.

The anonymous woman also asserted that the fact that most of the 6,174 voters in the academy are white males had nothing to do with why Selma wasn’t nominated in other categories besides best picture and best original song.

“What no one wants to say out loud is that Selma is a well-crafted movie, but there’s no art to it,” the woman said. “If the movie had been directed by a 60-year-old white male, I don’t think that people would have been carrying on about it to the level that they were.”

As for her finding the “I Can’t Breathe” T-shirts the cast wore during a New York City screening offensive, you might wonder if that had anything to do with her being white. But of course she said otherwise.

“I thought that stuff was offensive. Did they want to be known for making the best movie of the year or for stirring up s—t?” she asked.

Well, it looks like this anonymous woman just stirred up her own s—t. One has to wonder how long she’ll stay anonymous.
