Oscar Grant's close friend Jackie Bryson, who was on the train platform with Grant when he was killed, testified on behalf of the plaintiff. Bryson proved a formidable witness against the defense with his recounting of Grant's shooting, which came after three hours of combative back and forth with defense attorney Michael Rains. Some of his most gripping testimony included telling how there was smoke coming from Oscar's back and when someone begged the BART police to call for help, the officer allegedly responded, "When you shut the f%^& up, then we'll call the ambulance."
