Turns out that the man on the other end of the biggest NFL draft kiss is related to a mobster.

That's right: Michael Sam's boyfriend, Vito Cammisano, is the grandson of late Midwest wiseguy William (Willie the Rat) Cammisano.

According to the New York Daily News, Cammisano's father, Gerlarmo (Jerry) Cammisano, 60, served 14 months in the pokey for running a gambling ring in Kansas City. His grandfather William "Willie the Rat" Cammisano had ties to the Civella crime family of Kansas City.

The 23-year-old Cammisano is a former collegiate swimmer who was thrust into the national spotlight after the St. Louis Rams drafted his openly gay boyfriend in the seventh round. ESPN cameras were there to catch the moment when Sam got the phone call. Cammisano was standing next to Sam as he wept. Once he hung up the phone, the two kissed.

When questioned about his mob connection, Vito Cammisano referred the Daily News to Sam's agent, Joe Barkett. The Daily News notes that despite his family's connections to organized crime, Vito Cammisano is an all-around good guy who graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in communications.

"He's been a pleasant, pleasant boy all his life," his aunt Cathy Nigro told the News.
