It’s been one year since the hip-hop world was rocked by the shocking death of rap star Takeoff. On Wednesday, as friends and fans marked the anniversary of his passing, the most touching tributes came from his Migos bandmates, Quavo and Offset. They both honored Takeoff with touching Instagram posts.

Quavo remembered his nephew with a black and white picture and the caption, “Can’t forget it won’t Forget It NEVER Forget it. I Remember!”

Alongside a beautiful video celebrating his friend, fellow Migos member Offset wrote, “The times we spent is priceless what we built in this game they never wanted to give us our flowers we influenced the world…I Love you Take you still here with us I just know you are!!!! Migo 4Life!!!!!!”

Quavo has been very open about dealing with his grief and keeping his nephew’s memory alive. The “Hotel Lobby” rapper has also used his pain to advocate for gun reform. In September, he met with Vice President Kamala Harris and appeared on a Congressional Black Caucus panel on gun violence.

“I have to do something about it, so it won’t happen to the masses—especially in our culture,” he said during the panel. “I don’t want this to happen to the next person. I want to knock down these percentages.”

The case against Takeoff’s alleged shooter, Patrick Clark, is ongoing, as the suspect is claiming self-defense. His lawyer, Letitia Quinones-Hollins, states “There was someone else who started the shooting.”

“He was in the same position that Takeoff was in, he was trying to get out of there alive as well,” she said. “He didn’t have anything to do with the argument that occurred. He just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when people started firing weapons.”

In a YouTube conversation posted to his channel in July, Quavo revealed that he is working on a posthumous Takeoff album, but he wants to take his time and get it right. “I want to keep his stuff very, very sacred right now for his project…Knowing him, he want his shit right,” he said.
