Former President Donald Trump once again opened his ignorant mouth to attack Vice President Kamala Harris. This time, he attempted to shame Harris for attending the historically Black sorority Sigma Gamma Rho’s boulé which took place from July 31 to Aug. 4 in Houston.

Not only should he never speak on Black people, but Trump needs to stay silent when it comes to anything related to Black culture. During a radio interview with conservative political personality Hugh Hewitt, Trump labeled the event a “party.”

“She went actually, to a party,” Trump said to Hewitt. “And you know that she went to a sorority, sorority party and a very unimportant one. They have them numerous times during the year. It’s a shame.” Harris is a proud Howard University graduate and member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) sorority.

What Trump failed to realize is that Black fraternities and sororities are organizations that prioritize community engagement, racial equity and public service. His dismissive nature when it comes to the complexity of Blackness is nothing new.

Just last month during a controversial appearance at NABJ 2024, Trump said that Harris “happened to turn Black” to garner support from the community. In a statement, Sigma Gamma Rho’s 26th International Grand Basileus Marica T. Harris spoke out about Trump’s obtuse remarks about the sorority’s vital event.

“The [boulé] was an opportunity to commemorate the philanthropic efforts of our sisterhood. Vice President Kamala Harris brought forth greetings to an audience of ten thousand community leaders, entrepreneurs, civic leaders, and corporate partners.”

In addition, when Trump insulted the Divine Nine, he also disparaged some of the most important Black leaders in history including Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott King, Thurgood Marshall and Rev. Jesse Jackson.

Trump will keep lobbing these racist attacks against the Vice President until November—which is why he needs to be checked every time he does it.
