Republicans are feeling the heat after President Joe Biden stepped aside and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency. Scratching at anything they can find to make Harris look bad, here comes Tenn. Rep. William “Andy” Ogles trying to impeach her.
On Tuesday, Ogles filed two impeachment articles regarding Harris’ handling of the US border crisis and allegedly covering up Biden’s health. According to Ogles, the vice president “willfully and systematically refused to uphold the immigration laws, failed to control the border to the detriment of national security, compromised public safety, and violated the rule of law, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.”
The filing references multiple crimes allegedly committed by undocumented immigrants against American citizens. Ogles cited the killing of Laken Riley, the 22-year-old University of Georgia student who was killed while going for a run, as a direct result to Harris’ lack of control at the southern boarder.
According to the Nashville Banner, Olges, who is up for reelection, has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump. Not only that, the Republican is an avid Trump supporter and has even introduced the “Let Trump Speak Act” in support of the former president.
In the filing against Harris, Ogles referred to her as a “border czar,” saying she violated her constitutional oath and is a “threat to national security and the Constitution if allowed to remain in office.”
It’s important to note that just last week, the U.S. Customs and Boarder Patrol announced arrests at the U.S.-Mexico boarder reached a historic low for the Biden administration in June.
This isn’t the first time the GOP has attempted to take down a Democrat using the same game plan. Earlier this year, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas became the first cabinet member to be impeached in the House since the 1870s, according to the Hill. Those articles were dismissed, so now it seems the Republicans are coming to bat once again, hoping to knock out Harris.
But wait... there’s more. If that wasn’t enough, Ogles is also claiming Harris “mislead” Americans about the true state of Biden’s health. This comes after many Republicans have questioned what exactly the vice president knew about Biden’s mental and physical health heading into the 2024 election.
Since the start of the election cycle, many lawmakers noticed the 81-year-old president’s health has worsened. Even though Biden claimed that with age comes wisdom, his presidential bid ended on Sunday, leaving an open spot for Harris to slip right in.
Since announcing her bid for presidency, Harris has garnered massive support from her party. Even though she has to wait for next month’s Democratic Convention to officially become the nominee, Harris has already secured enough support from hundreds of delegates and all 23 Democratic governors to get the Democratic vote, according to the New York Times. Additionally, The Harris campaign received $81 million in donations within the first 24 hours of her campaign announcement, breaking a record.
Harris has not commented on the recent impeachment.
