Congress has "wrapped up" its business so that members can campaign in time for November elections. Talk about priorities — that takes a whole lot of nerve, considering that members of Congress on both sides of the aisle have not done anything that would suggest that they have concluded business or deserve a break. The jobs bill failed. Tax credits failed. "Race to the Top" is not funded. Black and Native American farmers have not received their settlements. "Don't ask, don't tell" is still on the books. They failed to pass a budget. The defense bill stalled. Free health care for those injured in the 9/11 terrorist attacks stalled. We could go on, but we'll stop. We guess we'll find out just what Congress has done during this campaign season. Their slogan should read, "Act later!" Maybe one day they'll approach legislation and working on behalf of the people with the same zeal that they approach getting re-elected by the people. We're completely unimpressed over here at The Root.
