President Obama was in a green state of mind yesterday as he celebrated St. Patrick's Day across the nation's capital, according to the Associated Press.
Decked in a moss-green jacket, the president celebrated the day of Irish pride with his ancestral cousin from Moneygall, Ireland, at his side. One of Obama's great-great-great-grandfathers on his Kansas mother's side was Falmouth Kearney, a shoemaker who emigrated from Ireland to the United States in 1850.
The White House burbled with green water from the South Lawn Fountain. But Obama wasn't content with just celebrating St. Patrick's Day at home: He took his motorcade to a popular Irish pub in the area.
Henry Healy, an eighth cousin to Obama and the closest relative still living in Moneygall, joined him barside at the Dubliner Restaurant and Pub as his guest. As Obama waded through the crowd, several of the patrons there chanted "Four more years!" Obama drunk a Guinness with the bar's patrons.
But the celebration didn't end on Saturday. The White House is preparing for a visit from Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny this Tuesday. He will also attend a St. Patrick's Day luncheon with Vice President Joe Biden.
