Say what you will about President Barack Obama, but his ability to be self-reflexive was on display during a taping of CBS's 60 Minutes. In the segment, the president acknowledged that in the wake of this week's election debacle, he hasn't been able to successfully promote his economic-rescue message to worried Americans. According to the Associated Press, Obama said he "stopped paying attention" to the leadership style he displayed during his run for the presidency. Obama also said he recognizes now that "leadership is not just legislation," and that "it's a matter of persuading people. And giving them confidence and bringing them together. And setting a tone. And making an argument that people can understand." Yes, Mr. President, it is sad to acknowledge that you have to break complex issues down to the barest essentials for most people to even attempt to understand. It also appears that Americans respond better to emotion and persuasion than to logic and actual facts.
