Some people in this world really shouldn’t have access to guns. And an off-duty New York City correctional officer, who shot himself and a woman he was showing off to at a bar, just might be one of those people.
Correction Officer Mario Carrillo was arrested Tuesday night at a bar in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood after he shot himself in the finger and a woman in her right foot. According to reports, Carrillo was showing off his gun to two women when he accidentally fired the shots.
The New York Daily News reports that the 30-year-old woman who was shot had aspirations of becoming a correctional officer, and that the other woman had invited Carrillo to discuss what it was like to be an officer. Hopefully she now chooses a new career path.
Carrillo was charged with assault and reckless endangerment and released without bail Wednesday.
