On Friday, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg clarified his upcoming change in the city's marijuana policy, which will see offenders found with small amounts of marijuana ticketed instead of arrested, the Associated Press reports. The policy, which stands as long as the offender has an ID and no warrants, is expected to go into effect in March.
The three-time mayor, however, who is in his last year of office, hasn't softened his approach on illegal drugs.
Bloomberg discussed the issue on his weekly WOR Radio show Friday. A day earlier, he said New York City plans to stop booking and arraigning many people arrested on low-level marijuana-possession charges.
Bloomberg says he opposes legalizing marijuana because it's stronger than it used to be. He added that if marijuana were legal, those dealers would just start selling something else, like cocaine.
