New York Knicks forward Cleanthony Early was robbed and shot early Wednesday morning after leaving a strip club in the Queens borough of New York City.
Around 4 a.m., the 24-year-old left the CityScapes Gentlemen's Club in the Maspeth neighborhood in an Uber car. The car was followed and eventually surrounded by several vehicles, out of which as many as six men wearing ski masks emerged, WABC-TV reports.
The assailants made away with gold jewelry (including a large gold chain and gold caps on Early's teeth), cash and a cellphone and shot the NBA player in the knee.
Early, a Wichita State alum, is in his second season with the NBA, during which he has played in 10 games and has averaged less than 1 point.
The NBA's Dwyane Wade and teammate José Manuel Calderón, among others, have rallied in support of Early via social media, sending their prayers and wishes for a speedy recovery.
